VLC for Android is an adaptation of the popular VLC media player designed for the Android™ ecosystem. This versatile application can handle a variety of video and audio formats, as well as network streams, DVD ISOs, and local files, just like its desktop counterpart.

Regarded as a truly universal media player, VLC provides a complete audio experience with its comprehensive database, equalizer, and compatibility with unconventional audio formats. Furthermore, it functions seamlessly across platforms, operating without cost and devoid of advertisements, in-app purchases, and spying practices. Developed by dedicated volunteers, all source code is freely available.

VLC for Android™ supports a broad range of local media files alongside various streaming options, including adaptive streams and shared disks. Supported formats encompass MKV, MP4, AVI, MOV, Ogg, FLAC, TS, M2TS, Wv, and AAC. Notably, all codecs are included, eliminating the need for additional downloads. It also supports subtitles, Teletext, and Closed Captions.

The media library for audio and video files allows for straightforward browsing, while VLC also accommodates multi-track audio and subtitles. The app’s capabilities extend to auto-rotation, aspect ratio adjustments, and intuitive gestures for controlling volume, brightness, and navigation.

It includes an audio control widget, supports headset control, offers cover art, and maintains a full audio media library.

To function effectively, VLC for Android requires access to various categories:
• "Photos/Media/Files" to access all of your media files :)
• "Storage" to retrieve your media files stored on SD cards :)
• "Other" permissions are needed to check network connections, adjust volume, set ringtones, operate on Android TV, and manage popup views; see below for specifics.

Permission Details :
• It requires permission to "read the contents of your USB storage" for accessing media files.
• The app needs to "modify or delete the contents of your USB storage" to facilitate file deletions and subtitle storage.

• It requires "full network access" to open both network and internet streams.
• The app must "prevent the phone from sleeping" while a video is playing.
• It needs to "change your audio settings" for adjusting volume levels.
• It requires to "modify system settings" to allow changes to your audio ringtone.
• The app needs to "view network connections" to check connectivity status.
• It requires to "draw over other apps" to initiate its custom picture-in-picture widget.
